another love story...

A couple of weekends ago, we set off to the sunshine state for my sisters wedding.
They had an intimate ceremony and dinner on the Saturday and a Newlywed's picnic on the Sunday. It was such a wonderful weekend, with perfect weather to boot.
You may remember me designing the invites a while back, well the whole wedding was a family affair, with everybody chipping in to help. We even managed to rope Mum's friend in to finish the bunting at the 11th hour.
On Sunday morning the boys went off to set up at the park, while the ladies got busy in the kitchen. At one stage I was breastfeeding Arlo, while giving orders and instructions to the merry band of helpers. 2 sisters, 1 Mum, 2 friends and an aunt. We made baguettes, sandwiches, cinnamon scrolls, fruit platters, antipasto platters, cupcakes... and don't forget the cake!
Mum was in charge of the baking of the most magnificent cake. It was a 10 layer Red Velvet affair. How amazing does it look! I wish I got a picture of it cut.
Here's the cute couple too.
Don't mind the knife wielding bride, she is really quite sweet.

Congratulations Melly and Zan!

06.07.07...

I've been meaning to write this story, for fear that time will take away the details.
A story of how I met my beloved...

Five years ago today, I walked into the Corner Hotel. Across the room was a tall, handsome man. He wore a motorcycle jacket, a Burny Guitar tshirt, black denim jeans and cowboy boots. We locked eyes as I made my way to the bar.
I was with my best friend, a girls night out to see Magic Dirt in the band room. Em and I sat at the bar and ordered a drink. We chatted with the bartender. The tall, handsome fellow and I continued to exchange glances. His eyes were intense, beautiful smiling eyes.
He made his way to the bar, my heart raced. He poured himself a water and went back to his friends. My heart dropped. He wasn't interested.
I went back to the conversation and a while after, we headed into the band room.
I didn't bother telling Em about the tall, handsome fellow that made my heart race. It was a girls night out, so I wasn't going to pursue anyone... no matter how handsome.
We were having a grand ol' time mucking about. The music was loud, Adelita was being just awesome. Toward the end of the set I saw him again. He was a few feet behind me, standing alone and drinking a beer.
Ever the idiot, something I did caused Em to give me a bit of a shove. Well that shove landed me almost atop of the tall handsome fellow. I didn't move, I couldn't. I was so close, I may have been standing upon his toes. He still didn't talk to me. I wasn't sure what to make of him. After a while, he gave me a nudge and gestured as if to say, "do you want a beer". I nodded. Halfway through the beer I asked him his name. I also asked him if he was a cowboy, did he really ride a motorcycle and did he really play guitar.
Two beers and minimal conversation later, I kissed him. I thought, if I don't show him that I'm interested then he may disappear into the night. He was most certainly the shy type.
After the gig we got talking and didn't stop until the early morn. I had insisted that we weren't to be separated, which had ended us back at his apartment. The next morning he made me tea and porridge and then left to fetch a car from the workshop to give me a lift home. Ever the gentleman. He returned with a black '81 porsche. I remember the car ride so clearly.
He dropped me off and we almost forgot to exchange numbers. It was as though everything was already so familiar, we had forgotten that we had only just met.
From then on we were inseparable. I cooked him dinner on the monday. He brought me gerberas. I told him never to buy gerberas again. It's best to be honest about these things.
A week later I met his extended family. I told his cousin I was going to marry him. Within two weeks we had decided it would be so and that we'd be together forever.
A month and a half later, he proposed... and I said YES!
And that is how this girl met her guy and is living happily ever after.
Love at first sight does exist. I know it to be true.
This is us at our engagement party.

What's your love story?

one month...

Little Arlo has been in our lives for just over a month. I find it so hard to believe. It feels such a short time, whilst feeling like forever at the same time.
I'm lacking sleep and therefore sense, so please forgive my little ramblings.

Our days have been a complete juggling act of caring for a newborn, entertaining a two-year old, protecting newborn from two-year old (donks on the head, eye pokes and limb pulling), keeping warm, making dinner and oh yeah... just trying to keep my head above water.
I'm keeping good humour about things though. It's not every day that you get wee-d on, pooed on and spewed on... oh hang on... yes it is. I'm all about repeating my mantra, "it's all a phase". For all of the hard stuff is way out balanced by the good. It's so easy to sit on the couch a little longer, ignore the dishes and forget about the laundry when there's squishy baby cuddles to be had. As much as i like having two arms to do stuff with, I do love my little koala boy. They grow so fast, I just want to hold onto the little bebe forever.

Here he is for his one month photo with his teddy (made by the loveliest of lovelies, Jess). Just like I did with Huckle, I'm going to document Arlo's first 12 months alongside his special teddy.
Thank you to all the lovely folk who left a message welcoming little Arlo into the world. We felt truly spoilt by you kindness, our hearts felt very full.

It's lovely to be back here in this space. Hopefully I'll be able to pop in a little more frequently and keep the family happy.
I hope you're keeping warm, It's bloody freezing around these parts.
