recent craftiness...

The past week has been very crafty. I've been saoking up inspiration from printing by hand, such a wonderful book. I've been wanting to do some basic printing for ages, but have been to overwhelmed by fancy methods. This is definately the book for me, it's full of great projects & visual guides. I can't wait to have a crack.
In more hands on crafting... I've been hooking away every day this week. I've made myself some mittens, inspired by the bird bath. But too gun-ho to stop & read her instructions (which would've been wise). So, with the basic concept in mind I whipped these up & now have orders in from workmates too.
Another crochet project has been some dish cloths. Since living in the country & having to dispose of our own rubbish, I've become quite aware of our consuming. I'm trying to cut down on mass produced items that simply don't last & aren't good for the environment. These are made from cotton & they can be put through the washing machine when they get grubby, so their life cycle is alot longer than the supermarket equivalent. I've done the same for our face washers too.
And one more thing... I'm trying to figure out how to crochet a beanie. At first I thought it would be pretty straight forward, but no sir-ee. I've started twice so far & had to pull both apart. I'm not going to give up though, I'll start again today.

hints of spring...

The past few mornings we've been blanketed in a thick fog. Winter is definately here for a bit longer, however spring is trying it's hardest to take over. We have a small orchard of about fifteen fruit trees, which I'm still trying to identify. Two of them have begun to blossom. It's so wonderful to look out the window & see them through the mist. I have a feeling there'll be lots of jam this summer.

day twelve...

Jonquils picked from the side of a country road.

for a sister...

It's my youngest sister's birthday today.
Happy Birthday Carly!
Here's the handmade part of her present. A book to keep photos & keepsakes of her little baby boy & a pouch to keep it all safe & out of harms way. We all know what trouble little ones can get up too.

day ten...

Monday 10 August 2009

thrifted...

Wonthaggi vinnies, what a shop! The range was good & everything was cheap like a good country oppy should be. And the staff were just ace, about 10 oldies carrying on & laughing.
I picked up a few pillowcases for a future project & scored this gum leaf curtain material aswell. The lady at the counter said, "Mystery piece of fabric... 5o cents." I'm going to make some shopping bags out of it. So now when I go to the safeway, I'll get more strange looks from the locals. Ha ha, they'll get used to me eventually.

day nine...

weekend past...

This weekend has been quite good. I've spent alot of time in the garden digging vegie beds, weeding & pruning. The vegie seeds have been ordered from diggers & shall arrive in the mail soon. I'm very excited. Much time & deliberation has been spent on the couch infront of the fire, plotting the patch. Our chook shed is near completion, the boy has been diligently hammering away for the past few days. I think we'll get some girls by the end of the week, mmm fresh eggs.
The sun has been shining & there's that lovely feeling that spring is not too far away. I can't wait for summer up here, warm evenings & sips of wine with friends.
Being up on a hill, the sunsets are just awesome.

We've seen some good ones lately, here is saturday's.

My favourite piece of art.
Made by my bestie & gifted to me for my birthday in 08.

making...

I've kept myself quite entertained this afternoon.
The husband has been tinkering about in the shed, so I've spent the afternoon in the studio making these two pouches & pottering about.

How have you spent your day?

day six...

I do love this ribbon.
I'm worried that one day my fifty yards will be zero & I'll have to find it again.

another sneak peek...

A gift heading off to Brisbane, I'll show the full details when it has landed safely.

bread bag...

I decided that my bread needed a proper home, rather than being wrapped in a tea towel. So I roughly fashioned this bag out of some white linen I had lying around & finished it off with some lovely japanese ribbon. Quite french looking I do think.

meet the neighbours...

These are the sweet girls that I see every morning. They're good, quiet neighbours.

a photo a day...

Megan from the byron life is taking a photo a day in august.
I'm going to join in too. I'm going to use this to improve my camera skills & play around with more styled shots. I really want to get better at grouping items, like you see them in magazines. Playing with colour, shapes, textures & lighting. I've set myself up a little area in my studio for taking the shots, right infront of a big window. So on a cloudy day, the light is just wonderful.
I make no promises of perfection.
Here's day one.
