still in the mist...

I had such a lovely time traipsing around in the morning mist, photographing the alpacas. I took myself around the property, capturing this moment of autumn.
I know I always go on about how wonderful autumn is... but isn't it wonderful?!
I hope you have a lovely weekend, be it autumn or spring.

alpacas in the mist...

Such funny creatures. This is the first chance I've had to capture them up close without Huckle by my side. They're very curious about Huckle, but they don't pay me too much attention. That makes for an easy subject.

The grey one is Loco... because he is crazy. He often will chase the other one around & is the leader of the two.
The brown one is Pogo... just because it sounds funny. Once when he was being chased by Loco, he jumped into the dam to escape. He swam to the other side & scrambled up the bank. Such a sight!

of warm days & winter...

The days are getting shorter around these parts, warm & sunny days are a real treat.
Last week Huckle & I spent many days on the lawn having picnics & watching the alpacas.
He loves being outside so much & often cries when we go back inside. I'm not sure how keen I'll be to go outside to play in the middle of winter. We'll definitely have to rug up! The wind down here roars off the Bass Strait, fresh from Antarctica. Brrrr.
I must get to making some lovely winter woolies before winter is upon us. I have a wishlist already written out. It goes something like this:
Huckle:: 2 beanies, 2 neckwarmers, mittens, a vest, a jumper & some warm pants
Mama:: beanie, cowl & wrist warmers
Husband:: jumper, wristwarmers & a manly cowl
I'm looking forward to nights in front of the fire knitting & crocheting away. It's nice to look forward to the cooler weather (ahem. what do I mean "look forward to"! It's been here for months).
Are you looking forward to winter?

still...

I couldn't resist snapping this dandelion head.
Weighed down by rain, soon to blown away by the gale that is blowing through these parts.
This seed head is such a beautiful metaphor for life.
You grow & do your very best, but some things are out of your hands.
You can't fight it, you must go with it & keep trying your very best.
You may feel that you have not succeeded... but my friend, know in your heart you have not failed.
Have a beautiful weekend. x

quiet...

I don't have many words at the moment.
I'm thinking of the dear folk of Japan.
Holding my boys close & being grateful.
This earth of ours is very unpredictable.
Just another reminder to embrace life each day.
To live & to love.
Wishing you & yours a most beautiful week. x

hello autumn...

Autumn is officially here, it feels like it has been autumn all summer (it's even felt like winter, ugh). I must say that this is my favourite time of year in victoria. There's obvious change happening all around us, hints of winter are sneaking in & if it were a normal year... the temperature would be just lovely. Camelias are budding, leaves are browning, chestnuts are ripening & the days are starting to shorten.
This weeks weather is turning into milo by the fire weather. It's so blustery & wet, all I want is to sit fireside under a blanket with a spot of crochet. Aaaah, bliss.
I've been mucking about with the camera on manual setting, trying new things & vaguely rembering all that was learnt many moons ago. I had a bit of fun in the garden yesterday, here are some shots. I like their fuzziness & grainy texture, almost looks like they've been painted.

I'm off to rustle up some energy to cook dinner... it's been a long day in Huckle land & mama is ka-put. It may very well be eggs on toast. Who doesn't love breakfast for dinner?

last night...

The sky was a big swirl of fairyfloss. Pink, orange, blue, purple & white.
We sat out til late admiring our achievements in the garden & marveling at the great sky.
Birds of all sorts were calling their evening songs. Magpies, crows, blackbirds, wattle birds, blue herons & kookaburras.
The alpacas stood on the hill by the dam, quietly mowing the grass.
Such a peaceful evening after a long day of gardening.
I'll show you some of our efforts tomorrow.
Have a fantastic weekend!

of piers & thoughts...

On the drive to pick up the highchair, we made a little stop by the water. We ate a picnic of yummy cheese, walked the pier, showed Huckle the seagulls & looked out from the lookout. Such a lovely moment in time.
I fell in love with the pier, surely I could have one just like it. I'd keep it in the bottom paddock to sit upon it at my leisure & admire the magnificent view. Many a thought would happen upon my pier.
In the words of Scarecrow, "I would think the things I'd never thought before & then I'd stop & think some more".
